Trichoderma viride is a species of fungus that offers numerous benefits in agriculture, horticulture, and environmental management. Here are its key features and benefits:
Features:
-
Biocontrol Agent: Trichoderma viride acts as a biocontrol agent against a wide range of plant pathogens, including fungi, bacteria, and nematodes. It competes with and parasitizes pathogenic organisms, inhibiting their growth and colonization on plant roots and in the soil.
-
Saprophytic Lifestyle: It is a saprophytic fungus, meaning it can derive nutrients from decaying organic matter and colonize various substrates, including soil, plant residues, and compost. This adaptability allows it to thrive in diverse agricultural and environmental conditions.
-
Growth-Promoting Activities: Trichoderma viride produces secondary metabolites, enzymes, and growth-promoting substances that enhance plant growth and vigor. These include cellulases, chitinases, β-glucanases, auxins, and other plant growth regulators.
-
Compatibility: Trichoderma viride is compatible with various agricultural practices, including organic farming, integrated pest management (IPM), and sustainable agriculture. It can be integrated into existing crop management systems without adverse effects on crops, beneficial organisms, or the environment.
Benefits:
-
Disease Suppression: Trichoderma viride suppresses a wide range of plant diseases, including root rot, damping-off, wilt, blight, and soil-borne pathogens such as Fusarium, Pythium, Rhizoctonia, and Sclerotinia species. Its biocontrol activity reduces the incidence and severity of diseases, leading to healthier plants and increased crop yields.
-
Biological Nematode Control: Trichoderma viride has shown efficacy against plant-parasitic nematodes, including root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), cyst nematodes (Heterodera spp.), and lesion nematodes (Pratylenchus spp.). It parasitizes nematode eggs and juveniles, reducing their populations in the soil and suppressing nematode-induced crop damage.
-
Enhanced Nutrient Uptake: Trichoderma viride enhances nutrient uptake by improving soil structure, solubilizing nutrients, and stimulating root development. It promotes the availability and uptake of essential nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, and micronutrients, leading to improved plant nutrition and growth.
-
Stress Tolerance: Trichoderma viride helps plants tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses, including drought, salinity, heat, and heavy metal toxicity. It induces systemic resistance mechanisms in plants, enhancing their ability to withstand environmental stresses and recover from stress-induced damage.
-
Environmental Sustainability: Trichoderma viride offers a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to pest and disease management, reducing the reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Its integration into agricultural systems promotes soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem resilience, contributing to long-term environmental sustainability.
-
Cost-Effectiveness: Trichoderma viride provides a cost-effective solution for disease management and crop protection, reducing the need for expensive chemical inputs and minimizing production costs for farmers. Its use can lead to higher returns on investment through increased crop yields, quality, and marketability.
Overall, Trichoderma viride is a valuable asset in modern agriculture, offering effective disease control, enhanced plant growth, and environmental sustainability. Its integration into agricultural practices can contribute to healthier soils, resilient crops, and sustainable food production systems.

Trichoderma viride releases Cellulase and Chitinase enzymes at the target site which dissolves cell wall of pathogenic fungi and bacteria.
They also secrete enzymes which inactivates metabolism in pathogens and increases plants growth stimulating substances resulting in a long lasting effect against pathogens. It is found naturally in soil and is effective as seed dressing in the control of seed and soil-borne diseases including Rhizoctonia solani, Macrophomina phaseolina and Fusarium species.
Target Crops:-Cereals, Pulses, Oil seeds , Cotton, Capsicum, Chilies, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Tomato, Potato, Onion, Peas, Beans, Ginger, Turmeric, Cardamom, Tea, Coffee and Fruits crop- Apple, Citrus, Grape , Pomegranate , Banana etc.
Effective Against Diseases:-It is a natural bio-fungicide, highly effective in controlling wide range of soil borne crops disease caused by Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Pythium, Schlerotinia, Verticillium, Alternaria, phytopthora, anjd other fungus.
Methods of Application & Dosage:-Seed Treatment Mix 810 gm. JFF Bio Pesticide in 50 ml. of water and applied on 1 kg of seed uniformly. Shades dry the seeds for 20 30 minutes before sowing.
Seedlings Treatment Dissolve 500 gm. W.P JFF Bio Pesticide in 50 lit. of water, Dip seedling roots for about half an hour in the suspension and transplant immediately.
Nursery seed bed Treatment Mix 500 gm JFF Bio Pesticide in 10 kg of well decomposed Fym/Compost/Vermi compost and broadcast in 400 Sq.mt. area and incorporate in soil up to 15-20 cm depth.
Soil Drenching Mix 1. 2 kg JFF Bio Pesticide in 200 lit. of water and drench the soil in 1 acre.
Horticulture crops Mix 50 100 gm. JFF Bio Pesticide per plant in sufficient quantity of well decomposed FYM/Vermi compost/Compost/field soil and apply the mixture in effective root zone of fruit tree. Dosage will change depending upon age of the crop.
